Predicting risk in a changing climate

Seeking geoscientific data enthusiast with an interest in making data easily discoverable and interoperable. You should have expertise in development and implementation of new and innovative geospatial methods and techniques on hydrologic, oceanic, and atmospheric datasets and how they related to geospatial infrastructure and economic datasets span multiple time scales.  Your work will add to research in hydrology, applied climatology and statistical modeling, and to the greater use of multidimensional environmental and built infrastructure data.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and manage data processing pipelines for the analysis and visualization of geophysical data for hazard modeling.
Develop and manage geophysical datasets for use with various geophysical and hydrodynamic models.
Perform spatial analysis of different types of geophysical data, including weather and climate observations, remotely sensed observations, and geophysical model output.
Develop tools, using open source platforms, for visualizing geospatial data.
Collaborate with data engineering team to build, manage, update, and provide QA/QC for geospatial databases.
Provide training, training materials, and guidance to customers and Jupiter colleagues on GIS tools and methods.


A resident expert in:
ISO compliant metadata for our GIS data and web service.
GIS applications, databases, web servers, file storage.
GIS data management, data policies and procedures, data access, backup, and archiving policies.
Data Interoperability.
Geospatial data growth to serve multiple efforts.
Data model implementation, database security, database performance tuning, data backup and recovery, data replication, and write and maintain clear, concise documentation for all GIS Systems and databases.

Master’s Degree or better in Geospatial Analytics/GIS, or Geography/Geosciences with GIS concentration.
Minimum 5 years experience in applying GIS to geoscience data.
Experience in supporting software development toward GIS, remote sensing, and statistical applications.
Strong background in probability and statistics.
Ability to operate in a high performance computing environment, including cloud computing.
Strong computer skills, including programming languages like Python, experience with ESRI/ArcGIS, QGIS or other open source GIS, web mapping technologies, programming frameworks and databases such as React, Angular, Node, Vue, SQL, ArcSDE, and Oracle.
Experience working with geoscience data in their native formats: Grib, Zarr, NetCDF, HDF, GeoTIFF.
Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) certificate preferred.
Ability to collaborate with a team of established geophysical scientists to present geophysical and hazard model output in scalable infrastructures.
