TERM OF ASSIGNMENT: beginning April 2018 – April 2020
HOURS PER WEEK: 20 hours per week
COMPENSATION: $13.29 – $15.90/hours

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Public Works is responsible for a wide variety of functions throughout the City. These include City facilities and infrastructure, fleet assets, regulation of development activities and the provision of animal care and services.

The Enterprise GIS Team is organized under the Technology Services Division of the Department of Public Works (DPW). It provides core services in support of Enterprise GIS and serves as the hub for the City’s GIS Program. This provides exciting collaborative opportunities with other City departments and agencies.
WHY INTERN WITH US?
As an intern, you will gain practical experience and exposure to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) best practices as they apply to working for a large municipality. You will learn valuable GIS skills such as reading engineering plans, performing data entry/analysis, and engaging with Engineers and GIS staff on special projects to improve the quality of GIS data for the City and community. The Technology Services Division has two positions available:
POSITION DESCRIPTION & DUTIES
• Assist in data input management tasks such as updating/creating GIS layers
• Research and interpret engineering plans
• Query databases and perform QA/QC to ensure data accuracy
• Discrepancy management and resolution
• Work with staff on special projects
• Produce cartographically-pleasing maps
Education: Any combination equivalent to completion of high school and current enrollment in an accredited college or university in undergraduate, graduate, or certificate program. Student Interns must continue to be enrolled in a college or university during their employment with the City of San José.
